RULES FOR A FILM ABOUT ANABAPTISTS

The constitution of the Anabaptists and the 'enemies of constitution' (1976)

Semi-documentary about the policy of the anabaptists of Münster (1534) and about the 'enemies of constitution' in West Germany (1976). A political film that was very successful at the festivals of Berlin, Rotterdam and Pesaro, but was never shown on public TV.

"Quarto modo di fare documentari è quello del giovane tedesco Georg Brintrup ... lucidissimo film in cui si mette in rapporto la repressione subita dall'anabattismo all'inizio del '500 nella città di Münster con quella che tocca oggi, a causa del 'Berufsverbot', ai membri del partito comunista tedesco che cercano un impiego pubblico. Il tema è affrontato nel modo più diretto - testimonianze, lettura 'in campo' di testi storici, immagini della città come è oggi - con un cinema di parola, tutto intellettuale, ma che riesce a collocare storicamente il problema e a coinvolgerci più di quanto avrebbero fatto confuse accumulazioni di materiali di repertorio o infuocate denunce."
